Our children are being bombarded with images of sorcery and witchcraft in one form or another…..and it’s all portrayed as innocent fun.  Television and cinema are awash with these themes specifically targeting young minds - Harry Potter, Charmed, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, etc. are blatant in their promotion of witchcraft, but perhaps parents should be more concerned with the Disney films - is it a coincidence that Disney is called THE MAGIC KINGDOM? - and other animated classics, such as the Shrek films, which are aimed at an even younger audience.

Now the works of the flesh are manifest which are these; Adultery, fornication,

uncleanness, lasciviousness,

Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, (Galatians 5:19-20)

The Lord does not make a distinction between the various things listed, as far as them being GOOD or BAD.  He identifies them as the works of the flesh and that is all.  He further warns us that works of the flesh are going to keep us from heaven.

THEY WHICH DO SUCH THINGS WILL NOT INHERIT THE KINGDOM OF GOD

SHOULD WE BE ENCOURAGING OUR CHILDREN TO DRESS AND ACT LIKE THE VERY THING THAT GOD HATES?

Father Gabriele Amorth, a Vatican-appointed exorcist in Rome, has said, "if English and American children like to dress up as witches and devils on one night of the year that is not a problem. If it is just a game, there is no harm in that."

Why is Sorcery so Dangerous?

According to the Bible, “the devil and his angels” (Matthew 25:41) now inhabit the invisible world and are constantly seeking to mislead us by their deceptions, just like Satan duped Eve at the forbidden tree.  One of these delusions is “the sin of witchcraft” (1 Samuel 15:23).  In essence, witchcraft is a sophisticated occult science claiming to offer human beings supernatural power and personal godhood.  It seeks to make self god, instead of letting God be God.  Thus it caters to the same tempting desire for self-exaltation which turned Lucifer into the devil.

Now here’s a key point: witches don’t believe Satan exists.  In their rituals, they seek to connect with spirits which they think are the spirits of Mother Nature, or of pagan deities, or even the spirits of the dead.  But it’s all a trick.  Sadly, witches are genuinely ignorant of who really inhabits the invisible world.  The truth is that all spirits contacted through techniques of “the Craft” are not deities of the forest, wind, earth, rain or sky, nor are they the ghosts of our deceased relatives, but are really “the spirits of devils, working miracles” (Revelation 16:14)

It’s a classic case of mistaken identity.  In their rituals, Wiccans often attempt to summon deities such as the “Guardians of the North”, or the “Lords of the Watchtowers of the East”, or “the Goddess”, but they are getting more than they bargain for.  The spirits they are dealing with are artful liars and skilled impersonators.  It’s really Lucifer and his angels.  This is why God warns us so strongly against witchcraft.  Like a parent who passionately warns his or her kids not to play in the street, God speaks, warns and rebukes because He longs to protect us from being invaded and ‘run over’ by invisible con artists who are really deadly fallen angels.
