What was nailed to the cross?

Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; (Colossians 2:14)  The ordinances (dogma) were the ceremonial law.  The Ten Commandments are the moral law.

There are many who try to blend the two systems, using the texts that speak of the ceremonial law to prove that the moral law has been abolished, but this is a perversion of the Scriptures.  The distinction between the two systems is broad and clear.  The ceremonial system was made up of symbols pointing to Christ, to His sacrifice and His priesthood.  This ritual law, with its sacrifices and ordinances was to be performed by the Hebrews until type met anti-type in the death of Christ, the Lamb of God that taketh away the sin of the world.  Then all the sacrificial offerings were to cease.

People who say we are 'not under the law' might like to consider the implications behind this statement.  If we do not have to follow the Ten Commandments, then is it perfectly acceptable to take the Lord's name in vain?  Is it okay now to steal, kill, lie, cheat, etc?  Obviously not.....or as Paul might say, God forbid!

Most people don't have a problem with 9 of the commandments, it's only the fourth that seems to be a sticking point, the one God tells us to remember.

Some people do keep what they term their 'sabbath', but they claim the totally unbiblical 1:7 principle - i.e. as long as it's one day in seven, then they seem to think that's fine by God.  But is it?

God blessed and sanctified the seventh day and ONLY the seventh day.....no other.

The Sabbath is our quality time with the Lord.  If the love of our life told us they would be coming to visit on a certain day, would we turn round to them and say that the day they'd chosen was not the right day for us and it would suit us better if they came on a different day?  er.....hello?  This is our Almighty Creator God we're talking about, Lord of Lords, King of Kings.  DO WE PRESUME TO KNOW BETTER THAN GOD?

(55) And the women also, which came with him from Galilee, followed after, and beheld the sepulchre, and how his body was laid.  (56)And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and rested the Sabbath day according to the commandment.

(1)Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them.

(Luke 23,24)

Jesus died on the Friday and the women came to anoint him on the first day (Sunday).  Why didn’t they come on the Saturday?  Did nobody think to tell these women that the Sabbath commandment had been ‘nailed to the cross’?  Nobody told them, because it hadn’t!

Jesus kept the

seventh day Sabbath

Shouldn’t we?

Just who are Sunday church goers worshipping?

Most mainstream church attendees have not questioned their day of worship and when faced with the truth seem reluctant to change.  Why is this?  Should our allegiance be to the church or God?

Hypothetically speaking, if church is the place where we come to spend quality time with Jesus and we turn up on Sundays, which is not the day which He arranged, would we be surprised when Jesus turns round to us at the last day and says "I never knew you" (Matthew 7:23) ?

God forbid any of us should hear those desperately sad words from our Saviour.

Salvation is personal and doing something because 'everyone else' is doing it won't save anyone.

"...and all the world wondered after the beast." (Revelation 13:3)

Who we worship will be very important in the last days -
Moreover also I gave them my sabbaths, to be a sign between me and them, that they might know that I am the LORD that sanctify them. (Ezekiel 20:12)
