| Are the Ten Commandments (also known as the Decalogue) important today?
Some people argue that it's impossible to keep them.....but then, why would Jesus say that if we love Him we would keep His commandments? Would a loving God ask us to do the impossible? NO! |
| The Ten Commandments are not easy to keep because of our sinful natures, but they're not impossible. And to all those people who claim that Jesus only meant us to keep two commandments, it is quite obvious that He was summarizing the Ten - the first four commandments are all about loving God and the other six commandments are concerned with loving our neighbour: |
|
Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, amd saying, Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. |
| (Matthew 22:35-40) |
| Thou shalt have no other gods before me. |
| Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain..... |
| Remenber the sabbath day, to keep it holy..... |

| Honour thy father and thy mother..... |
| Thou shalt not kill..... |
| Thou shalt not commit adultery..... |
| Thou shalt not steal..... |
| Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour..... |
| Thou shalt not covet..... |

Satan HATES God's law and he's doing his utmost to do away with every commandment, but he's doing it in such a subtle way that nobody would immediately realise that this is his plan. The commandment pages list the ways in which each law is being systematically destroyed. It will become increasingly more difficult for those of us who wish to keep the commandments in these end times, but it's comforting to remember what happened to Daniel's three friends, Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego when they refused to bow down to Nebuchadnezzar's golden image. They were thrown into the fiery furnace (Daniel 3:21) but were protected from the flames by Jesus who was with them - God promises to be with us through our fiery trials, He never says He will takes us away from them (all those who believe in the pre-trib rapture, please take note). Daniel, himself, was also protected when he was thrown into the lion's den for praying to God after the decree had gone forth that for thirty days nobody was allowed to pray to anyone else but the King (Darius at that time). Daniel continued to pray openly to God and was subsequently thrown into the lion's den.....(to be continued) |
